Where Identity Meets Triple Entry Accounting
The Enterprise Layer for the Next Era of Economic Record-Keeping
Double entry accounting is 600 years old. It costs the global economy $36 trillion every year. Pacio has built the replacement — and we have proved it works.

1 · The Problem Beneath Every Balance Sheet
DEA Costs the World $36 Trillion a Year
Every business on earth runs on double entry accounting (DEA) invented by Luca Pacioli in 1494. It built the modern world. It is also broken — subject to fraud, corruption, cybercrime, and systemic inefficiency at a scale that dwarfs most national economies.
Annual cost of DEA · 2026 estimates
| Cost Category | Annual Loss |
|---|---|
| Cybercrime | $11.4 trillion |
| Corporate fraud | $5 trillion |
| Corruption | $6 trillion |
| Accounting inefficiencies | $1 trillion |
| Excess payment fees | $1 trillion |
| Direct costs subtotal | $24 trillion |
| Opportunity losses (productivity) | $12 trillion |
| Total cost of DEA | $36 trillion |
29% of world GDP · Larger than the US economy · Worsening year by year
The Root Cause
When every entity keeps its own private ledger, there is no shared, immutable source of truth between counterparties. Audit is sampling-based, expensive, fallible, and after the fact.
- Fraud detection is reactive — discovered months or years after the fact
- Reconciliation is manual — finance teams spend 30–40% of time on it
- Trust is expensive — compliance overhead grows every year
- Audit is sampling-based — 100% coverage is economically impossible with DEA
1.5 · The Global Settlement Compression
The World Is Moving to T+1. T+0 Is Next.
Global markets are compressing settlement cycles — but atomic settlement is impossible without atomic compliance. SOS + TEA is the missing layer.

T+0 / atomic settlement
“No harmonized international treaty or standard on cross-border recognition of blockchain settlement finality currently exists; rather, the approach remains one of applying the existing PFMI framework on a technology-neutral basis while flagging the need for further jurisdictional cooperation.”
— Norton Rose Fulbright, “Regulation Around the World — Issue 18” (June 2026). Regulatory analysis cited for informational purposes. NRF does not endorse SOS or PACIO.
The gap: Every major jurisdiction is building DLT settlement infrastructure — but no one is building the compliance layer that makes atomic settlement safe and legal. SOS + TEA is that layer.
2 · The Solution
Triple Entry Accounting, Extended by Pacio
TEA solves the structural flaw of DEA: every transaction between two parties generates a third entry, cryptographically signed by both, stored on a shared immutable ledger. Neither party can alter it after the fact. The blockchain holds the third entry — the cryptographic proof of what actually happened.
TEA as originally conceived (Ian Grigg, 2005) was incomplete. Three things were missing — which is why no one has successfully deployed TEA at scale. Pacio adds them.
Universal Digital Identity
TEA requires every party to every transaction to be immutably and uniquely identified — permanently, globally, and verifiably. No existing ID system provides this. SOS aggregates them all. Not by competing, but by ranking hundreds of existing ID systems by veracity. The identifier it produces is called a SID.
Standardised Semantic Data
Accounting data must be comparable across entities, jurisdictions, and standards at the source transaction level. Pacio developed SSIM — the Standardised Semantic Information Model. Every data point is tagged with what it means, what it relates to, and why it matters. SSIM is to accounting data what JSON-LD is to web data: machine-readable, context-rich, interoperable.
Nine Prerequisites Architecture
Pacio identified nine conditions any TEA system must satisfy for universal adoption — covering immutability, scalability, identity, privacy, standardisation, regulatory compliance, DEA transitional compatibility, affordability, and ease of use. We designed an open-source architecture that meets all nine. No prior TEA attempt has done this.
3 · SOS — The Identity Layer
The Identity Infrastructure Enterprises Have Been Waiting For
SOS is a decentralised identity provider that gives every person and every entity a universal, permanent, self-sovereign digital ID called a SID. Not a new data silo — a container that aggregates existing IDs, ranks them by veracity (0–100), and presents a single trust score. The Visa of Identity.
Risk-Based Verification Tiers
FATF guidance requires a Risk-Based Approach. SOS delivers it natively — from $0.10 SDD checks to $1.00 EDD for high-value institutional transactions.

What SOS Unlocks for Your Enterprise
Offload KYC/AML entirely
Request an attestation from SOS. Receive compliance. Do not receive data liability. Fake ID risk transfers to the SOS framework.
Age verification — zero PII disclosed
ISO/IEC 27566-1:2025 ZK proof: "I am 18+" without name, address, or date of birth. UK OSA, Australian SMMA, EU DSA compliant.
Entity identity with org hierarchy
SOS Entity SIDs represent subsidiaries, branches, departments, and group structures — impossible with flat LEI identifiers.
Permanent, lifelong IDs
A SID persists through country moves, name changes, and corporate restructurings. FATF 5-year record-keeping satisfied by design.
Succession and guardian handling
Every SID supports guardian/executor nomination — identified by their own SIDs. Eliminates shareholder registry nightmares.
Deepfake-resistant liveness
ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2 active face/voice challenge-response. Designed to defeat 2026-era generative AI fraud.
Audit trail permanence
Every verification generates a blockchain timestamp — immutable proof of Customer Due Diligence. Regulators verify without requesting documents.
4 · TEA — Accounting That Audits Itself
When Identity Is Solved, TEA Becomes Possible
The economics of business record-keeping transform. Every transaction is cryptographically signed by both parties and anchored immutably on Base L2.
How a TEA Transaction Works
Agreement
Entity A (supplier) and Entity B (customer) agree on a transaction — an invoice, purchase order, or payment.
SID Identification
Both entities are identified by their SIDs — permanent, globally unique, veracity-scored identifiers.
SSIM Tagging
Transaction data is structured using SSIM semantics — every field tagged with standardised, machine-readable meaning.
Dual Signature
Both parties cryptographically sign the transaction. The shared entry cannot be altered by either party.
Blockchain Anchoring
The signed transaction is recorded immutably on Base L2. A timestamped hash is generated — permanent proof.
Result
Both entities maintain their own double entry records as before. The blockchain holds the third entry. 100% of inter-party transactions are verifiable automatically — without sampling, without manual reconciliation.
What TEA Means for Your Enterprise
Fraud becomes structurally difficult
A supplier cannot inflate an invoice after the fact. A customer cannot claim a payment was never received. Both parties signed the shared entry. The blockchain is immutable.
Audit cost collapses
Median audit cost today: 1.56% of revenue for sub-$1B businesses. With TEA, 100% of inter-party transactions are verifiable automatically. Auditors shift from detective work to exception handling.
Real-time financial visibility
TEA transactions are recorded as they occur — not batched, not reconciled at month-end. Management has access to accurate, verified financial data in real time.
Regulatory compliance as a byproduct
Every TEA transaction generates an immutable CDD audit trail. FATF record-keeping requirements are satisfied by the architecture itself. Tax authorities verify without requesting documents.
Transitional compatibility with DEA
TEA does not require every counterparty to adopt immediately. If Entity A uses TEA and Entity B does not, Entity A's TEA entry is still created. When Entity B adopts TEA, historical entries can be picked up.
Beyond Accounting · The Regulatory Frontier
TEA will better fight crime, improve economic efficiency, ensure that UBI systems can work, and ensure that all agreements or laws to regulate the technological advances in progress — especially AI — can actually be tracked and enforced in real time.
UBI systems need TEA to avoid becoming a bonanza for the fraudsters. New laws being developed for AI systems and data centres, such as the Australian Government's planned national standards on AI, will need TEA to allow automated, real-time management and enforcement.
Why TEA · Beyond Bookkeeping
Crime
Real-time fraud detection at the protocol layer
Efficiency
Automated reconciliation, no manual audit
UBI
Identity-verified disbursement, no fraud bonanza
AI Regulation

The Pacio Suite — Applications Running on the Infrastructure
SOS and TEA are the infrastructure. The Pacio Suite (TPS) is the set of applications that run on that infrastructure — generating revenue, demonstrating utility, and driving adoption. Click to expand each product.
7 · The Economic Model
Why This Works: Small, Transparent Fees
Personal SOS Accounts — creating a SID, adding SSIDs, age verification, biometric login — are permanently free. Universal adoption requires it. Entities pay per-use fees dramatically lower than existing alternatives. No SOS/SID data is ever sold.
Entity fee schedule
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Age verification check (Zero Knowledge) | $0.10 |
| Tier 1 KYC onboarding (SDD) | $0.10 |
| Tier 2 KYC onboarding (EDD) | $1.00 |
| App login via SID | $0.10 |
| TEA transaction | ~$0.01 |
| Entity cap table operations | TBD |
Legacy KYC costs $1–$50 per check · SOS: $0.10–$1.00
Why Entities Will Pay
The cost difference alone justifies adoption. The strategic benefits are larger.
Liability shift
Fake ID risk transfers to the SOS framework. You receive attestations, not raw biometric or document data. GDPR exposure minimised.
Audit trail permanence
Every verification generates a blockchain timestamp — immutable proof of Customer Due Diligence. Satisfies FATF 5-year minimum by design.
Privacy compliance built in
ISO 27566 age assurance, FATF-aligned tiered KYC, GDPR-compliant data handling — not bolted on, built in to the architecture.
Regulatory coverage at scale
UK Online Safety Act, Australian SMMA, EU DSA, FATF Recs 16/20 — one SOS integration covers all of them, now and as new laws pass.
8 · Architecture
Open Core, Proprietary Services
The pattern of the internet's most valuable companies. Linux, HTTP, and TCP/IP are open. Google, Amazon, and Microsoft built trillion-dollar businesses on top of them. The open core ensures adoption and trust. The proprietary services generate revenue. Pacio will not compete with SAP, Sage, Xero, or Intuit — it will provide the architecture that lets them evolve from DEA to TEA.

10 · The Stakes
$36 Trillion Per Year. The Largest Solvable Inefficiency in the Global Economy.
TEA reduces it. SOS makes TEA possible. SSIM makes it interoperable. The MVP proves it works. Pacio is not proposing a theory — we have built the first working implementation of a universal permanent digital identity system that constructs verifiable Triple Entry Accounting records on a blockchain. We did it in June 2026.
We are now raising $5 million to take it to scale.
